I'm going to share a technique with you that's going to change your life. It's going to get you to relax and help you to sleep. It's going to take away anxiety. It's going to slow your system down, kicking up your parasympathetic nervous system so you can feel relaxed as your body continues to repair and heal.
We're going to be working with two meridians in the hand. Acupuncture/acupressure is an ancient healing art of meridian therapy that goes back in China 3,000 years ago to make sure your chi energy is flowing unobstructed throughout your body. Energy obstruction, the Chinese believed, led to many types of symptoms and conditions that we may face, from metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, autoimmune problems, and cancer.
What we're going to do today is to build the immune system by stimulating our parasympathetic nervous system, which is essentially going to wind you down and take away anxiety. It's going to help you sleep so much better. It's going to help you function and heal better.
For demonstration purposes, I'm going to hold each point between 20 and 30 seconds. You can hold a little longer if you like on your own. We're going to start right below the second digit where you'll feel a bump, as in the photo. Right underneath that bone, there's a hollow point. You'll take the thumb of the other hand and push it right underneath that bone and hold it. As you hold that point, you're generally going to be feeling changes behind the nasal area, behind the eyes. And you're going to feel your body start to wind down. Put nice firm pressure there between 20 and 30 seconds.
After this point, we're going to make our way down to where you feel a thick band at the base of the thumb. On that band and you're going to push. It may be tender. This is a magical lump point. When we hold that point, we open up our bronchioles in the lungs. Take a deep breath through your nose and feel how much more air comes into your lungs. Blow it out of your mouth. One more time. Breathe in as you hold that point. You'll be able to get a lot more oxygen coming in. You can hold this point any time to get more oxygen into your lungs.
From this point we're going to go on a diagonal to the lower line of the fifth digit. Just inside that line you're going to take your thumb and push. It's going to be a little tender. Hold that point. Here we're working on the heart meridian. Close your eyes and just feel yourself unwinding. This stimulates the brain which sends messages back throughout your entire nervous system to slow you down... slowing your heart rate and respiration and lowering your blood pressure.
Now, we'll make our way straight down from here. This is the grand finale. As you come down to the wrist level there's a little hollow groove where you're going to use your thumb to push right up against that bone there. Put nice firm pressure there and you'll feel everything slow down behind your eyes.
You can use these points any time throughout the day. You'll feel everything wind down. It's great before you go to bed. It takes away anxiety and slows you down when you're under stress.
