On the Border

When there were 1500 Haitian refugees halted at the southern border of the United States recently, it raised grave concerns about the Biden administration's handling of immigration. Now we are looking at a half million asylum seekers from Central America that are on route to reach the United States border by the end of October. The ineptitude of government policy has led us to an unavoidable border crisis on steroids.

Borders, language, and culture are essential to national continuity. If a nation is to survive as sovereign its borders must be clearly demarcated and defensible. Otherwise it is just a piece of migratory real estate. The national discussion has been framed to look as if it is purely a choice between allowing everyone in who seeks a better way of living or shut down the border entirely. But this is a false choice. The US has nearly always welcomed immigrants who seek to move here following certain legal guidelines, closing the border only to those who seek to circumvent the law. Immigration laws need to be enforced. Border security is national security.

The proliferation of identity politics predicated upon ethnicity and race will collapse America if such mismanagement continues unchecked. Identity politics is not only superficial, but pathological, and abandons the notion that America is a rare multicultural democracy that works because we, its citizens, have voluntarily given up our racial and ethnic identities to blend into a unified but successfully diverse culture unlike anything the planet has experienced before.

American values of civic nationalism transcend one's ethnic and racial heritage. What an open-door policy of illegal immigration does is dilute citizenship with the distinction between citizens and residents becoming dangerously obscure. The idea that we have 50 million people here in the United States who were not born in the United States makes it an enormous challenge to assimilate and integrate them into any sort of cultural continuity.

This all began when President Barack Obama advanced ethnic and racial agitation by socially commodifying artificial grievances. The 44th president regularly advanced neo-Marxist narratives in which the ideology’s paradigm of class struggle was reframed as a hierarchy of oppression based on continually changing left-wing parameters related to ethnicity, race, and sexual preference. Obama artificially polarized the nation by dividing the populace essentially into two classes – whites and the victims of whites. Such manufactured victimhood continues purely to secure various advantages over others in lieu of meritorious distinctions. It has led to the growing entitlement movement that is now attracting more and more people to cross our borders.

Tribalism is now endemic, and everybody is trying to find a tribal affiliation. If you can identify with a particular tribe that is “oppressed” or “victimized”, then you immediately gain rights to certain compensation or reparations from the government, or gain favoritism in hiring... just for choosing a particular identity, quashing American exceptionalism based upon hard work, risk-taking, and merit.

The American public may not be paying enough attention to the border crisis, but the criminal organizations around the world are... looking for increased ways to exploit weak and ambiguous immigration policies. Criminals are paying close attention and will adapt their strategies accordingly. The bottom line is that by incentivizing and facilitating illegal immigration, the Biden administration is making it easier for drugs to freely flow into the country, for human trafficking to expand, and for criminal aliens to infiltrate our society.

Approximately 7000 immigrants are apprehended at the border every day, and nothing is being done to curtail that demographic. This cannot be allowed to continue. A country that does not control its border is no longer a country. If a return to enforcement of well-established immigration law does not occur soon, we may be facing that eventuality.
